The New Hege Story
An introduction to how we’re thinking about the new Hege Story.
As we start rolling out the new Hege Story, here is what you can expect over the months to come.
TL;DR
- We have a clear long term goal and direction for the Hege Story.
- We’re going to tell it in simple chapters, at least one new chapter per month.
- We’re not trying to create something perfect from the start.
- Instead we’re starting low, releasing often, and improving bit by bit as the project grows.
Moar Story!
As most of you already know, Nino and I (Day) have been working on deepening our storytelling and expanding the Hege Universe (a.k.a. the Hegeverse).
I want to take some time to explain what we’re planning, and set the tone for the road ahead. I’ll try to explain how we’re planing to take the Hege Story to the next level and how we’re thinking about it. Because it’s important that we all understand what we’re trying to do here, and why we’re doing it. That way, we can all pull together in the same direction.
So long story short, Nino and I have worked out a big vision and a clear goal for the Hege Story. Unfortunately I can’t tell you exactly what it is because that would spoil it! But the point is that after months of thinking deeply about this, we now have a long term plan for the whole story arc and the development of all our main characters.
And by long term I mean years — this is a BIG story.
The Hege Story Will be Told in Chapters and Levels
Big picture, the Hege Story will be split up in Levels.
You can think of these levels kind of like levels in a video game. Entering a new level means that Hege will have levelled up as a character and that he’s now unlocking a new world, with new environments, new adventures and new support characters. These levels will be big, so expect it to take several months for Hege to level up from level to level.
(The first level will center around The Hegilton, but that’s all I can say for now!)
From week to week, these levels will be told in Chapters, each chapter consisting of a short illustrated story. These chapters will be similar to the five chapters we have already put out, but the story will be deeper and the characters will be more realistic.
New chapters will be released at least once a month. For levelling up, we’ll simply make a judgment for when Hege is ready to move up to the next level. It will be based on market cap, but not market cap alone.
The Long Term Goals Are Set, But in the Short Term We Improvise
In the long term, we have a clear goal and a clear direction.
But in the shorter term — from chapter to chapter — we’ve deliberately chosen not to plan things out so much. So we know where we’re going, but exactly how we get there is something we’ll make up along the way. This makes it possible to keep everything fresh, and to adjust the story to whatever is happening in the crypto market and in the world from week to week and month to month.
We think this is a good approach: a clear framework to guide us, but with enough room to improvise and keep everybody on the edge.
Start Simple, Build Toward Perfection Step by Step
We’re going to start out simple and scrappy.
This is also a deliberate choice. Just like Hege in the story, we don’t have a lot of resources, so we have to make do with what we have.
We figure it’s better to start extremely basic and then slowly improve over time, learning as we go. This is much better than trying to get everything perfect from the start and setting expectations way too high — we’re a small project growing this from the ground up, and that will reflect in how we tell the story.
In software engineering terms, we’re doing iterative development:
- Produce the simplest possible chapter and release it.
- Study how it turned out and what engagement it got.
- Find something to improve for the next chapter.
- Repeat.
In artistry terms, you could say we’re sketching out small parts of what down the line will develop into the masterpiece that the Hege Story is destined to be.
We Will Need Your Help
So what I’m saying is don’t expect perfection right out of the gate.
But do expect us to keep pushing, keep learning, and keep getting better and better over time.
In return, we need your help in whatever capacity you can and want (there will be plenty of opportunity!). Because there’s no way only one or a few people can pull this off. We’re all going to have to work together to make HEGE into the success we know it’s meant to be.
So we’re going to be smart, we’re going to be creative, and we’re going to work together — that’s the HEGE way.
And we couldn’t be more thrilled to have you all along for the ride!
